The Journey to Your New Home: Step 5 - Moving In!

You researched and found the right builder, who provided a detailed quote. You signed a contract that included detailed specifications. You carefully selected products and systems during the build. You made sure any changes were documented on change orders.

Since you did all of the above, the final bill cannot have any unexpected costs or surprises. The closing of your home should have gone very smoothly. All of your research and hard work has paid off! It seems like there is nothing left to do but to enjoy your new home!

While this is hopefully the case, the complexity of today’s homes may require additional explanations or adjustments after you have moved in. Service After the Sale may be the truest test of your builder. It should be easy for you to arrange lessons or explanations for the various products and systems in your new home. If a problem arises, it should be dealt with in a reasonable amount of time. Information and warranties for the many components of your home should be left with you at closing. Any further information you require should be as simple as calling your builder.

You and your builder have been working together for months. Their only goal during the entire home building process was to exceed your expectations, and to have you refer their company to your family, friends, and associates. Hopefully your builder will remain your best source for any questions, warranties, repairs, renovations, or another new home!

Congratulations — you did everything right! Enjoy your new home.
